Position Summary:
The Web Strategist supports the strategic planning, development, and implementation of the. Society’s web properties. This position works with other members of the Web team and Communications Department, as well as with both internal and external stakeholders to discover and define problems in order to deliver the best outcomes. The Web Strategist is a generalist capable of helping others to produce their best work, as well as taking a lead role when necessary to drive diverse projects over the finish line.



A Typical Week May Look Like This:
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Society-wide web strategy.
  • Lead the user experience process, including research, interviews, and design, under the guidance of the Head of Web Strategy.
  • Constantly assess and identify opportunities for improvement to the user experience through testing and iteration, and qualitative/quantitative analysis, including Lean methodologies.
  • Support and contribute to the planning and development of microsites and other web properties, including Meetings, Community sites, and partner programs.
  • Facilitate strong collaboration among the web team and others who support APS web properties, including Marketing, IT, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead iteration and improvements of website design and layout.
  • Work with Web Producers to improve presentation of content while guiding users toward completion of priority tasks.
  • Curate accessibility and ease-of-use, with special attention to WCAG guidelines and Section 508 requirements.

Is This You:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in web design, information technology, computer science, communications, or other related fields, required
  • Specialized training in fields of UX/UI Design, encouraged
  • 6+ years of progressive experience managing or developing medium-to-large content management system implementations
  • Web design skills, including the ability to produce attractive web layouts based on existing materials, and ability to communicate needs to designers
  • Practical Experience with Accessibility Testing, including WebAIM, VoiceOver and NVDA, a plus
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to communicate both design and technical details to non-technical audiences
  • Proficient with HTML, CSS, responsive frameworks, Google Analytics, SEO, scripting languages, and content management systems
  • Practical experience with marketing tools, including analytics/tag managers/campaign management tools/email marketing platforms
  • Practical experience and a sound understanding of digital marketing, engagement analysis, analytics, web design, content strategy, and information architecture
  • Previous experience working with nonprofit associations or scientific publishing industry
  • Self-starter with ability to be productive with minimal direction
  • Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently
