Responsibilities:

  • Architects and owns the portfolio management process including project initiation, scoping, prioritization, resource allocation, capacity planning, cadence, and quantitative assessment of project execution and outcomes.
 
  • Facilitates the translation of strategic goals into well-defined actions by leading and coordinating designated groups responsible for business planning, through process management.
 
  • Collaborates to establish the roadmaps for products and services that are needed to inform prioritization and resource allocation.
 
  • With executive support, it resolves resource allocation and other cross-organizational prioritization problems through collaboration and, if necessary, a well-defined escalation process.
 
  • Advocates for and establishes a culture of effective strategic business planning enabled by portfolio management to advance strategic aims through the achievement of well-defined goals and supporting actions.
 
  • Evaluates and recommends tools necessary to support effective portfolio management while achieving organizational clarity and alignment.
 
  • Establishes cross-organizational project management practices to ensure good communication, coordination, and alignment among delivery teams and management.
 
  • Continuously improves portfolio management practice and exercises careful change management to introduce refinements.
 
  • Assesses and reports on the performance of the portfolio, the constituent projects, and the progress towards achieving the strategic goals.
 
  • Coordinates and supports the business planning processes needed to refine goals and organizational strategy with an appropriate cadence
 
  • Ensures regular and timely review of goals and outcome metrics with senior leadership and with cross-organizational teams.

Education: 
 
  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) preferred.
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) preferred.
  • Comparable project management certifications are preferred.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience relevant to strategic planning, innovation management, project management or related roles.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success implementing and leading large cross functional projects related to innovation and/or strategic initiatives.
  • Strong PowerPoint, Excel and Visualization/Infographics and related reporting skills.
  • Experience managing complex projects in Asana or a comparable project management software tools.
  • Ability to analyze complex business problems, identify opportunities for innovation, and develop actionable strategies to achieve business goals.
  • Creative thinker with understanding of innovation methodologies and tools, such as design thinking or lean startup, and be able to apply them effectively.
  • This role often involves convening cross-functional teams and collaborating with various stakeholders. Strong leadership and management skills are necessary to inspire and motivate team members, manage projects effectively, and navigate organizational challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey ideas, influence stakeholders, and build consensus. Be able to present complex concepts and strategies in a clear and compelling manner to different audiences.
  • An ability to align innovation and strategic initiatives with the organization's overall business objectives and competitive landscape.
  • Enthusiasm for being part of a small team working on highly visible strategic programs and communications.
  • Agility, experience anticipating needs, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and pivot quickly when necessary.
  • A keen awareness of time and deadlines, so especially when juggling multiple projects or faced with tight deadlines, all activities are completed in a high-quality manner within required timeframes.
  • Accountability and a commitment to excellence and achieving desired outcomes, even when faced with obstacles or setbacks.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, ensuring all work products are completed thoroughly and accurately.
  • Excellent judgment with a high degree of discretion and tact.
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules.
  • Ability to work well within a team, as well as independently.
  • Proficiency with Zoom, Slack, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google products.

Travel: The position may require some business travel to attend meetings and events as directed by the supervisor.
 

Salary:


The salary range for this role considers the factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, and other business and organizational needs. APS's Compensation Philosophy is to manage salaries at the midpoint of the market. Therefore, it is the practice to hire within the entry - midpoint range.


Full Range: $78,640k/year - $117,960k/year (USD)

Target Range: $78,640k/year - $98,300k/year (USD)


Work Environment:

As noted above, APS offers a “Remote First” workplace. Although our Editorial Offices are located on Long Island, you can work from other places in the United States. We are flexible about work hours, but expect responsiveness during the core of the workday, Eastern Time.
