Position Summary:
The Web Manager leads the day-to-day production of APS.org and other sites in the APS portfolio. This position works with stakeholders across the organization to ensure content is attractively presented, up-to-date, and relevant to user tasks while driving readers to priority content. Responsibilities include day-to-day content updates as well as leading the planning and production of content for new sites and content sections. The Web Manager works in a variety of CMS’s and demonstrates strong working knowledge of web content layout, including planning responsive layouts. This position supervises and provides feedback and guidance to Web Producers.



A Typical Week May Look Like This:
  • Lead daily content production: Manage the flow of incoming requests, assign to Web production team; review work for quality
  • Lead content design for APS web initiatives: Develop user-centered content, plan content models, work with stakeholders to discover and implement effective user-focused messaging
  • Manage editorial calendar and enforce web governance and style guide compliance
  • Contribute to best practices for APS web content, including regular SEO reviews, accessibility scans, browser compatibility checks
  • Develop feedback loops to improve and maintain content production workflows
  • Manage, mentor, and provide guidance to a team of Web Producers
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to discover alignment with user needs and help content initiatives succeed
  • Review key portals to APS content and ensure that priority content is prominently displayed and relevant to user tasks

Is This You:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in English, communications, journalism, marketing, design, IT, or similar field
  • Specialized training or equivalent experience working with web content strategy
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in managing websites and content production
  • 2+ years of experience managing a group of web professionals
  • A strong understanding of web design and UX design best practices
  • Practical Experience with Accessibility Testing, including WebAIM, VoiceOver and NVDA, a plus
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly to stakeholders
  • Proficient with HTML, CSS, Google Analytics, SEO, and content management systems
  • Practical experience with marketing tools, including analytics, tag managers, campaign management tools, and email marketing platforms
  • Practical experience and a sound understanding of digital marketing, engagement analysis, analytics, web design, content strategy, and information architecture
  • Previous experience working with nonprofit associations or scientific publishing industry
  • Ability to coach staff in “writing for the web” techniques.
  • Self-starter with ability to be productive with minimal direction
  • Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently
