Summary of the HR Generalist Position:

As a Human Resources professional, you work every day to support your organization’s greatest asset: its people. We’re seeking a Human Resources Generalist with exceptional customer service skills who is knowledgeable, motivated, and is a deadline and results driven self-starter.  This position will focus on benefits administration & wellness, staff communication, compliance and records, performance management administration, and assisting with employee relations issues. This role will also support staff recognition,company events and gatherings, and general administrative tasks for the HR team. 

Reporting to the Associate Director of HR, this position helps lead the execution of day-to-day human resources functions for our staff supporting our core values. The HR team directly supports 250 employees in 14+ states. Our HR Generalist will work out of our College Park, Maryland office and will work in a hybrid schedule to work both on-site and remote as needed.

Benefits & Wellness

  • Assist employees with health insurance and retirement plan questions and problems through written material and online resources.  
  • Responsible for the development of staff Wellness Program and related communications and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with third party administrators to process all benefits related leaves & programs (FML, Paid Family Leave, Short-Term  Disability, Workers Compensation, COBRA) and address employee and supervisor leave questions and issues.
  • Assist with scheduling of open enrollment information sessions by creating communication pieces and handling logistics.
  • Reconcile monthly health insurance plan invoices.
     

Employee Relations Support:

  • Act as a supportive point of contact for our employees by providing helpful and responsive assistance.
  • Answer standard questions about HR policies and benefits
  • Respond to and support employee relation issues and escalate sensitive matters to the HR Manager or Associate HR Director as appropriate

Communication, Recognition, & Events

  • Partner with out Internal Communications team on developing staff messages relevant to HR initiatives
  • Support annual performance management process.  Responsible for record maintenance, platform support, creating communication pieces, scheduling and logistics, presentation development support, and supporting staff information sessions.
  • Coordinate staff recognition programs that support our employee-friendly culture.
  • Lead our volunteer events committee to support employee special events and fun gatherings

Record Maintenance and Compliance
  • Prepare electronic payroll documents and letters as directed with ability to create HRIS reports
  • Update and maintain electronic organization charts.
  • Maintain electronic personnel and immigration files consistent with HR policy and procedures.
  • Update and maintain job descriptions
  • Update and maintain APS records for COVID-19 screening surveys & vaccination status
  • Coordinate annual Conflict of Interest policy announcement and employee forms
  • Handle requests for verification of employment from outside entities. 
Education & Credentials:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Do you have a PHR or SHRM-CP?  That would be terrific (but not required).
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Minimally 2+ years of experience working in HR or relevant experience combined with education in an HR related field.
  • Experience in administration of benefits and other HR programs
  • Experience with employee recognition programs and event coordination preferred
  • Excellent written communication skills are required
  • HR compliance and personnel record maintenance
  • Proficiency in Google Gmail, Google Docs, Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Experience in ADP/Workforce Now (or other Payroll/HRIS system). 
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, prioritize responsibilities to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly to concerns
  • Do you love details and staying organized?  Great!  This job demands strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and keep deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Do you love HR technologies?  Outstanding!  This job demands daily work using HR technologies to improve how we serve our workforce
