Responsibilities:
 

  • Drive strategic initiatives for unit management including a new unit service model, unit communications tools, and model unit guidelines.
 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in support of unit activities and oversee unit interactions with all APS departments.

 

  • Advise unit leaders of APS strategic direction, collaboration opportunities across APS, and association management best practices.

 

  • Oversee establishment of an annual work plan for all unit activities throughout the year.

 

  • Coordinate with the Meetings team to support unit executive committee planning processes.

 

  • Collaborate with Honors Program Manager to facilitate staff support of unit honors, travel and/or childcare grants.
     
  • Review financial reporting and budgeting with unit treasurers.
     
  • Serve as direct liaison to APS Division of Fluid Dynamics: provide programmatic and planning support to executive committee, manage internal and external resources to meet administrative needs of executive committee.

 

  • Manage a staff team of unit relations professionals, establish workflows and operating procedures, allocate resources, assure quality, and track project delivery and performance.

 

  • Collaborate with the unit relations team to evaluate unit health and to support unit leaders in their roles.

 

  • Facilitate education and training to volunteer unit leaders on an ongoing basis.

 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's degree is required. In lieu of a Bachelors degree four years of equivalent work experience may be accepted.


Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
 
  • Minimum of 8 years of management experience.
 
  • Minimum 3 years experience and demonstrated accomplishments in volunteer management, component relations, and/or association management.
 
  • Minimum of 6 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • A strong background in not-for-profit (or similar) association management.
 
  • Exceptionally strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Familiarity with association management software a plus (Nimble preferred). Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills.
 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent attention to detail.
 
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules.
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently. Proficiency with Zoom, Slack, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google products.



Travel: The position requires frequent travel to attend meetings and events as part of its core responsibilities, as well as additional travel as assigned.

 

Salary:


The salary range for this role considers the factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, and other business and organizational needs. APS's Compensation Philosophy is to manage salaries at the midpoint of the market. Therefore, it is the practice to hire within the entry - midpoint range.


Full Range: $95,082k/year - $142,624k/year (USD)

Target Range: $95,082k/year - $118,853k/year (USD)



Work Environment:

As noted above, APS offers a “Remote First” workplace. Although our Editorial Offices are located on Long Island, you can work from other places in the United States. We are flexible about work hours, but expect responsiveness during the core of the workday, Eastern Time.
