Data Services Assistant

Society offices are located in College Park, MD (Headquarters), Ridge, NY, and Washington, D.C.
Position Summary:
Processes incoming correspondence, including author, referee and production correspondence. Enters and/or verifies manuscript metadata for new submissions and resubmissions. A cover letter must be provided for consideration.
A Typical Week May Look Like This:
- Processes incoming digital correspondence
- Enters and/or verifies manuscript metadata, correcting database entries upon request
- Evaluates and confirms the overall integrity of database notations
- Calculates length checks and recounts on length constrained article types
- Handles queries from other staff members, troubleshooting database entries and other related problems as they arise
- Participates in quality control efforts
- Participates in special projects as assigned
- Documents and updates user procedures
- Maintains contact with Editorial, Editorial Systems and Journal and Data Services staff
Is This You:
- HS diploma or equivalent required
- At least two years’ experience working in a data entry environment is desirable
- Strong computer skills is essential
- Ability to process a large volume of correspondence with extremely high accuracy
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently
Work Environment:
- Most work performed in an office environment
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching maybe required in completion of job responsibilities
- Flexible work hours to accommodate the time differences for meetings and events as requested
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. as part of job responsibilities
Travel:
Position may require some business travel to attend meetings and events as directed by supervisor.
