Position Summary:
The American Physical Society (APS) is seeking a Science Policy Intern to work with its Government Affairs (GA) team for a half year temporary part time role. A Typical Week May Look Like This:
- Assist Senior Strategist Grassroots Advocacy with grassroots initiatives.
- Assist Senior Strategist for Grassroots Advocacy with development of APS GA advocacy
- materials.
- Assist Senior Strategist for Grassroots Advocacy with internally focused APS activities.
- Assist Senior Strategist for Grassroots Advocacy with logistics and provide other administrative
- support as necessary.
- Assist Director of Government Affairs with federal science policy initiatives, as needed.
- Communicates regularly with Senior Strategist for Grassroots Advocacy. Interacts with Director of Government Affairs, APS GA staff, OEA Operations and Program Manager, Senior Public Relations Manager and other APS staff as appropriate, as well as APS membership, Congressional staff, and colleagues at other scientific organizations.
- Participate in discussions of office projects within the grassroots advocacy portfolio. Remain up-to-date on APS GA policy priorities, positions, and activities to the extent required to independently complete daily responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Is This You:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, physical science and/or public policy major preferred. Exceptions can be made for outstanding undergraduate students.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Two years undergraduate coursework in physical science or public policy
- Proficient in Office 365 and Google Suite
- Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules.
- Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.
- Sense of humor and eagerness to learn a plus.
Travel: The position requires occasional travel to attend meetings and events as part of its core responsibilities, as well as additional travel as assigned.
